How We Protect Your SUV: Shipping Insurance, Container Strapping & Inspection

What happens to a Geely Monjaro L between our yard and your port: pre-shipment inspection, wheel lashing in 40HQ containers or on Ro-Ro decks, marine insurance under CIF, and photo reports.

Short answer: each vehicle is inspected and photographed before loading, strapped at the wheels so it cannot move, and — on CIF orders — insured for the sea voyage. You get photo or video confirmation at each milestone, so you know the condition of your vehicles before they leave China.

What is checked before shipment?

Before a Monjaro L is released for export we check that the vehicle matches the proforma invoice — model year, trim, colour, VIN — and record its condition with photos. Typical checks cover bodywork and paint, glass, wheels and tyres, interior, warning lights at start-up, and the keys and accessories that come with the car.

If your bank, customer or regulator needs an independent report, we can arrange third-party inspection, such as SGS, before loading. The cost is agreed in advance.

How are vehicles secured inside a container?

Racking lets a 40HQ container carry vehicles on two levels.

In a 40HQ container, vehicles are fixed with ratchet straps over the tyres, attached to lashing points on the container floor or to a loading rack. Racks allow a second level, which is how two to four SUVs share one container. Straps over the wheels — not the body — let the suspension absorb movement without stressing the bodywork.

And on a Ro-Ro vessel?

Ro-Ro: vehicles are driven aboard and lashed on deck.

On roll-on/roll-off ships the vehicles are driven aboard and lashed to the deck at each wheel. Ro-Ro suits larger volumes on routes with regular car-carrier calls; containers suit smaller orders and inland destinations. See the comparison on our export process page.

Is the shipment insured?

Under CIF, the seller must buy marine insurance for the voyage. Under the ICC Incoterms® 2020 rules, the minimum CIF cover corresponds to Institute Cargo Clauses (C), a limited level of cover; buyers can ask for broader cover, such as Clauses (A), at extra cost. Under FOB, you arrange insurance yourself from the moment the vehicles are on board.

Tip: if you buy CIF, ask for the insurance certificate and check the cover level. If you buy FOB, line up insurance before the loading date.

What do I receive as proof?

  • Photos of each vehicle before loading
  • Loading photos or video showing lashing
  • Bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin
  • Insurance certificate on CIF orders
