Short answer: an FOB price covers the vehicle and its delivery onto the ship in China — nothing after that. To compare it with a local dealer, add ocean freight, insurance, destination port fees, import duties and taxes, homologation, inland transport and your own after-sales plan. What does an FOB price include?
Under the ICC Incoterms® 2020 rules, FOB (Free On Board) means the seller delivers the goods loaded on board the vessel at the named port of shipment. For a Monjaro L that covers the vehicle, export preparation, inland transport to the Chinese port, export clearance and loading.

Why can a direct import cost less than a local dealer?
A local dealer’s price includes their import costs plus margin, showroom, stock financing and warranty provisions. A direct import removes intermediaries between you and the Chinese supply chain, and lets you choose the exact trim and quantity. For dealers and fleets buying several vehicles, mixed containers and repeat orders reduce freight cost per car further.
When is a local dealer the better choice?
- You need a single vehicle with a local factory warranty.
- Your market requires approvals that are impractical for a China-market specification.
- You cannot manage import paperwork and have no broker.
For the Monjaro L specifically, remember that China-market vehicles run a Chinese-language infotainment system by default and the China-market factory warranty does not automatically apply abroad. Factor after-sales support into your comparison.
